Dr. Osama Hatem, Associate to the EDA Chairman for Policy and International Cooperation and Supervisor of the Central Administration of Pharmaceutical Policies and Market Access, participated in the opening of a high-level international workshop titled: “Towards Sustainable Healthcare: Digitization of Patient Information Leaflets for Over-the-Counter (OTC) Products.” The workshop was held as part of the 4th edition of Africa Health ExCon 2025.
The workshop was organized in collaboration between the Egyptian Drug Authority and the Global Self-Care Federation (GSCF), Sponsored by Opella, with the participation of distinguished group of international experts in the fields of self-care, digital transformation, and sustainability in the healthcare sector.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Osama Hatem emphasized the EDA’s commitment to adopting innovative digital solutions and updating relevant regulatory frameworks, particularly with regard to the digitization of patient information leaflets for OTC products. He described this step as pivotal in advancing sustainability and enabling patients to access health information in a safe and efficient manner.
This workshop served as a key platform for exchanging global experiences and showcasing best practices in the digitization of pharmaceutical information, contributing to the development of health policies and enhancing the efficiency of self-care systems. It also represents a practical step in the EDA’s ongoing efforts to promote innovation and integrate high pharmaceutical quality with accessible information, in line with the global shift toward more advanced and flexible healthcare services.
