The EDA Announces the approval of National Drug Policy by Broad National Consensus
Policy approval strengthens pharmaceutical security and advances Egypt's progress toward the WHO Global Benchmarking Tool Maturity Level 4
The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) announced the approval of the Egyptian National Drug Policy, following endorsement by the Higher Committee for the Development of the National Drug Policy. The committee is chaired by Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority, with membership drawn from the Ministry of Health and Population (MOHP), the Egyptian Health Council (EHC), the Supreme Council of Universities, the Unified Procurement Authority (UPA), the General Authority for Healthcare (GAH), the Pharmaceutical Chamber of the Federation of Egyptian Industries, the Egyptian Pharmacists Syndicate, and the Egyptian Medical Syndicate.

The coordinated contributions of these stakeholders produced a balanced, consensus-based policy that aligns public health priorities with industrial development and enhances the global competitiveness of Egyptian pharmaceutical products. Developed through inclusive, cross-sectoral engagement, the policy represents a strategic national milestone that unifies stakeholders to advance Egypt's pharmaceutical system and strengthen regulatory governance in accordance with international best practices.
The EDA led national coordination of the policy, consolidating input from internal and external stakeholders through its Strategic Planning and Policies Administration at Strategic Management General Administration
This approval advances the EDA's implementation of the World Health Organization's Global Benchmarking Tool (WHO GBT) and supports Egypt's progression toward Maturity Level 4 (ML4). Achieving ML4 will improve the efficiency and transparency of the national regulatory system, reinforce Egypt's role in the regulation and oversight of medical products, positively impact public health, and support the sustainability and competitiveness of the Egyptian pharmaceutical industry at the national, regional, and international levels.

The National Drug Policy provides a comprehensive strategic framework setting the national direction for pharmaceutical sector development. Its objectives include Ensuring the availability of safe, effective, and high-quality medicines, expanding sustainable access to pharmaceuticals, strengthening pharmaceutical security, enhancing regulatory efficiency, Promoting the rational use of medical products, supporting local manufacturing, innovation, and investment, Strengthening coordination among national stakeholders in alignment with Egypt's national vision and future challenges.
